Mangaluru: A delegation of MLAs from the Dakshina Kannada district led by district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary met Chief Minister Yediyurappa and appealed for the resolution of various issues in the district.
The delegation discussed the damages caused by the recent rains in the district and submitted a letter of appeal to the chief minister regarding compensation for the affected families and releasing of relief funds.
The delegation also discussed and requested a separate sand dredging policy and amendment of existing sand dredging rules for the three coastal districts of the State.
The delegation reportedly explained that the process of dredging sand from the rivers of the coastal districts has a long history which should be continued. This traditional sand dredging process cannot have the same regulations as applied in other districts of the State. Hence the prohibition of sand dredging in the coastal belt must be lifted.
Along with Poojary, other MLAs in the delegation included S Angara, U Rajesh Naik, Umanath Kotian, Sanjeeva Matandoor, Dr Bharath Shetty.
