Dandeli: 6 of a family from Hubballi drown in river
Family was attempting to rescue drowning child

Dandeli (Joida): Six of a family from Hubballi, who had been to the river side for a fun outing, met a water grave on Sunday evening in Akoda of Biriyampali village under Joida taluk.
The victims have been identified as Nazir Ahmed Chaman Saab Honnambal (40), his children Alfiya (10) and Moheen (06), along with Nazir’s sister Reshma Unnisa Taufeeq Ahmed (38) and her children Ifra (15) and Abid (12), all residents of Iswara Nagar, Hubballi, were enjoying a day out near a river.
It is gathered that tragedy struck when one of the children, a girl, was spotted drowning in the river. The other five family members rushed to her rescue but all of them met a tragic end.
Local authorities, along with support from staff of Jungle Lodges and nearby residents, cooperated in recovering the bodies from the water. Dandeli Rural Police have initiated an investigation.
Bodies have been shifted to Dandeli government hospital for autopsy.
