Dandeli: After two days of intense search operations, the body of the teenage boy who was dragged by a crocodile into the Kali river, has been found. The rescuers finally fished the body out of the water on Tuesday morning.
On Sunday, a crocodile pounced on Moeen Mohammad (15) and dragged him into the water.
Soon, intensive search operations were launched to trace the boy. Several jetties, as well as rafts, were employed in the search.
In the past two days, the crocodile had played hide and seek with the rescuers. The rescuers had sighted the crocodile several times, dragging the lifeless body into deep waters, but could not retrieve it.
At around 10.30 AM on Tuesday, the rescue boats, jetties, and rafts surrounded the area where the crocodile was sighted from all sides. Two locals, Ganesh and Mushtaq dared to snatch the mortal remains from the jaws of the beast. There were some tense moments as the crocodile followed them around for a while.
However, nearby rafts chased away the crocodile until the body could be brought ashore. The body was then dispatched for an autopsy.
A huge crowd had assembled on the riverbank to watch the rescue operation.
