Shahapur: In a daring heist at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in the city, thieves made off with a lorry carrying a substantial quantity of rice.
The incident occurred when the lorry, loaded with 20 tonnes (420 bags) of Annabhagya rice destined for distribution to village ration centers in the taluk, was parked near APMC.
According to the police, the theft took place after the lorry driver carelessly left the key unattended and departed for another location. Seizing the opportunity, the culprits swiftly made away with both the rice and the vehicle.
The stolen lorry joins three other trucks that were also supplying Annabhagya rice and parked at APMC during the incident.
Law enforcement authorities have sprung into action, launching a thorough investigation into the theft.
