Davanagere: In a shocking incident, Davanagere police arrested four individuals accused of murdering a relative to claim his insurance money. The arrests were made within 24 hours of the crime by the Azad Nagar police team.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Ganesh (24) from Bamboo Bazaar, Anil (18) from Hale Chikkanahalli, Shivakumar (25), and Maruti (24) from Bharat Colony. They allegedly murdered 32-year-old Duggeshi, a resident of Imam Nagar in Davanagere, on November 4.
According to police, investigations revealed that Ganesh had taken out an insurance policy in Duggeshi’s name from a private bank in Davanagere. Believing they would receive Rs 40 lakh from the policy, the group strangled Duggeshi to death and later placed his body at his residence.
The Azad Nagar police registered the case and, under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar, Santosh, G. Manjunath, and City Sub-Division DySP Mallesh Doddamani, Inspector R.G. Ashwin Kumar and his team managed to apprehend the accused within 24 hours of the crime. A Pulsar bike, allegedly used in the crime, was also seized from the suspects.
During interrogation, Ganesh admitted to taking out the insurance policy in Duggeshi’s name and conspiring with his friends to kill him to obtain the policy amount, police said.
The quick action of the team has been lauded by District Protection Officer Uma Prashanth, who commended the police for their swift investigation and arrests in this case.
