Davanagere: Amid a growing wave of land registration controversies across Karnataka, where properties like farmland, Mathas, and temples have reportedly been registered under the Waqf Board, a similar incident has now surfaced in Davanagere. It has come to light that land in a well-established neighborhood has also been registered under the Waqf Board.
The plot in question is located on AVK College Road in PJ Layout, under Survey Number 53. Records reveal that four acres and 13 guntas of land were registered under the Khabarastan Sunni Waqf institution in 2015, without apparent verification. This revelation has left hundreds of residents in the area deeply concerned.
PJ Layout, an old and respected locality, was named in honour of Prince Jayachamarajendra of Mysuru. As early as 1950, the land was allocated to the underprivileged by local authorities, and the City Corporation later issued house numbers for each plot. Property records list individual owners, and many families have lived here for three to four generations, having built homes over the decades.
However, the 2015 registration, reportedly without on-site verification, has raised alarm among the residents, who fear their land ownership might now be contested.
