Davangere: Sonda Sri Swarnavalli Mutt Shri Gangadharendra Saraswati Swamiji urged the state government to take immediate steps towards including the Bhagavad Gita as part of the syllabus in the educational institutions.

He said this while addressing the gathering on Sunday, December 4 at the Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra during the state-level Bhagavad Gita campaign event.

The seer said, “In today’s scenario we can see a lack of cultural and traditional values in youths. At a very young age, many are committing suicide, which is an alarming situation. If Bhagavad Gita is taught to children, such instances can be avoided. Hence, I urge the state government to immediately include it in the curriculum.”

“The teaching of the Gita is very apt for the current Indian scenario. It will help one to indulge in good deeds as well as make one understand how important it is to be dynamic in life”, he added.

Quoting the instance of the death of Mysuru Maharaja Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, the seer said, “When the government had announced the demise of the Maharaja and following it a three-day state mourning, we have observed some enjoying the moment. Through Gita studies, such mindsets can be healed.”

Governor of Karnataka, Thawar Chand Gehlot, Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, MP Dr. G. M. Siddeshwara, seers from different mutts and other dignitaries were present.
