Davangere: Lokayukta police arrest city council member, her family in bribery case

In a major development, the Lokayukta police have apprehended the fifth ward member of Harihara Municipal Council along with her husband, son, and an engineer, for allegedly accepting bribes from contractors.
Nagaratna, the elected representative of the city council’s fifth ward, her husband, Manjunath, son Dr. Revanth, and engineer Hamid are the accused.
According to reports, Member Nagaratna had demanded a 10% commission in exchange for approving the bills for the construction work carried out by contractor Majeed in the fifth ward of the Harihar Municipal Council. It was further revealed that Nagaratna’s husband, son, and municipal engineer had exerted pressure on her to secure the bribe.
The matter came to light when contractor Majeed lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta regarding the corrupt practices. Taking swift action, the Lokayukta police arrested Nagaratna on Friday morning while she was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from contractor Majeed.
Nagaratna’s husband is employed in a bank in Davangere, while her son is a doctor.
The operation was led by Davanagere Lokayukta SP, M.S. Kaulapure, along with a team of officers.
