Mangaluru: ‘Tweet Tulunad’, a day-long Twitter campaign launched by Tulu organizations fighting for providing Tulu language its due recognition is receiving an overwhelming response.

A message was sent on social media by Tulu organizations urging Tuluvas living across the globe to take part in the ‘Tweet Tulunad’ campaign with the hashtag TuluOfficialInKA_KL on Sunday, June 13. A good response was observed for this request.

The purpose of #TuluOfficialInKA_KL campaign held on Sunday is to urge the state and neighboring Kerala governments to recognize Tulu as an official language and then include the language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution.

Take a look at few tweets:

Ironically, the campaign has been launched just a few days after actress Adhvithi Shetty called out a social media user for his post disrespecting the Tulu Nadu flag.

The abuser (unnamed) had shared a picture of a pair of sandals that had the flag of the Tulu region printed on them along with a comment that meant serious disrespect to the people and the region.

So, when Adhvithi Shetty, a native Tulu speaker, learned about the misdemeanor, she did not hold back from condemning the serious disrespect towards her land and shared a post on social media with critical comments.

“This is not acceptable. My mother tongue is Tulu. Am a proud Tuluva and to see this hurts. Got to know about this today and it’s so sad to see. No one can speak ill about any language. There is so much happening around us y do we need to spread or talk hatred about things like these ???? As much as I love Kannada I love Tulu too. Am a proud Bunt, I hope this culprit is caught very soon,” wrote Adhvithi Shetty in an attempt to call out the culprit and seek suitable punishment.
