DC Sasikanth Senthil hoists national flag at Nehru Maidan

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil hoisted the National Flag at Nehru Maidan marking the 73rd Independence Day celebrations.
Addressing the gathering after hoisting the flag Sasikanth Senthil said, “We got Independence in 1947 because of continuous fight and sacrifice of our freedom fighters. Now on the occasion of 73rd celebration of our Independence, we should make sure that this unity maintained.”
He further added, “We are witnessing severe flood situation in the district and state. We lost many lives and it damaged our homes, businesses and infrastructure. I salute the individuals, organisations, private institutions, various government departments and police for their timely help in emergency situations. Their swift action avoided more casualties and helped people in tough situations. On behalf of the government and district administration, I assure all kind of help to the people who are in distress due to flood.”
On the occassion, the DC also felicitated toppers of the district in SSLC examination namely Sri Lakshmi N, Mohammad Majeed, Tejaswi K, Santhosh, Pushpa Punya, Basappa Rudrappa Chalavayi, Rakshitha, Likhith Kumar, Rajin Taushiya in Dakshina Kannada, Mangaluru North and Mangaluru South categories.
The Independence Day was celebrated with the spirit of patriotism and harmony and the Karnataka Reserve police, civil police, home guards, Traffic police, NCC, Scouts and Guides demonstrated a colourful march-past on the occasion.
In the parade, NCC Air Wing and NCC Navel wing bagged first and second places.
On the occasion, students were also seen clicking selfie DC Sasikanth Senthil.
Independence Day was celebrated at BJP office here, Former MLA K Monappa Bhandari hoisted the National Flag.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, legislator Vedasavam Kamath, former MLA N Yogesh Bhatt, district vice president Ravishankar Mijar and others party activists were also present.
Mangalore International Airport also marked the 73rd Independence Day by hoisting the tricolor flag.
