New Delhi: The Drugs and Comptroller General of India (DCGI) has reportedly approved the use of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for vaccinating children in the 2-18 years age group.

News agency ANI in a tweet said that the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) has given the necessary approval for the administration of the anti-Covid vaccine to children.

In September this year, Bharat Biotech had completed Phase 2/3 trials of COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin for use in children under 18 years of age and had submitted the data to the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation for its verification and subsequent approval for emergency use authorization (EUA).

The Subject Expert Committee on COVID-19 examined the data and deliberated on the EUA application on Monday, October 11, reports said. These recommendations have been forwarded to the Drugs Controller General of India for final approval.

With this approval, Covaxin has now become India’s first COVID-19 vaccine that can be administered to children.
