Mangaluru: The new under-construction office building at Padil that will house the offices of Dakshina Kannada district’s deputy commissioner, city corporation’s 38 departments and MPs and MLAs will require one more year to be ready for occupation.

Moodabidri MLA Umanath Kotian stated that due to financial strains on the state government the building could not be made ready earlier.

He further stated that due to the farm loan waiver and floods the state couldn’t allot funds towards its completion. Additionally, the cost of construction materials increased in the meantime increasing the estimated construction cost from Rs 41 crores to Rs 55 crores.

A meeting of MLAs from the district along with Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary will be convened which will discuss the issue and seek funds from chief minister B S Yediyurappa.
