Deadline to link PAN and Aadhaar today, late penalty of Rs 1,000 from tom

People who have not yet linked their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar will have to pay a penalty of up to Rs 1,000 starting tomorrow to get the two documents linked.
While on previous occasions the government had extended the deadline, it has indicated at imposing a late fee for those who fail to link both the documents before the stipulated deadline of March 31, 2021. The late fee will be exclusive from other penalties for holding an inoperative PAN Card.
The Income Tax department has made it clear that the PAN will become “inoperative” if it is not linked with Aadhaar by March 31, 2021.
Ways to link PAN with Aadhaar
1. Through e-filing portal of the department: www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
Click on – Link Aadhaar option and submit details of PAN, Aadhaar number, Name as exactly specified on the Aadhaar card (avoid spelling mistakes)
Linking will be confirmed after verification from UIDAI.
Please note that the Aadhaar OTP will be required in case of discrepancies of provided Aadhaar name. The date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar should match.
2. Linking Aadhaar and PAN via SMS
Send SMS to 567678 or 56161. Format of the SMS is UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><Space><10 digit PAN>
For checking status of PAN Aadhaar Link visit e-filing portal of the department: incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/aadhaarstatus. Enter PAN and Aadhaar number and go to the ‘View Link Aadhaar Status.’ Their PAN Aadhaar Link Status will get displayed on the computer monitor.
