Bantwal: Nearly four years after a pregnant woman died owing to the medical negligence on the part of doctors at a hospital, the Dakshina Kannada District Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum (Consumers Court) has directed that a compensation of Rs 18.12 lakhs be paid to her kin.

The victim  Chanchalakshi’s husband, Naveen, a resident of BC Road had approached the consumer court alleging doctors negligence as the reason for the death of his wife and their unborn baby.

Chanchalakshi was expecting her second baby and had been admitted to a private hospital at BC road, on February 6, 2014, on the advice of her doctor. It as gathered that the hospital staff administered Chanchalakshi with an injection after which her condition worsened. Moreover, the doctor, she was consulting was not around at the time and had arrived late at the hospital.

Keeping in view her health condition the doctors – Dr Bharati Shetty and Dr Shashikala – advised the family to shift her to a hospital in Mangaluru and made arrangements for her to be taken in an ambulance. However, by the time she reached the hospital, Chanchalakshi had passed away.

Bantwal town police had registered a case in this regards.
