Mandya: A debt–ridden farmer who is also a JD(S) party worker, allegedly committed suicide even as the Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy was campaigning for Mandya Lok Sabha byelection at Pandava Stadium in the town on Saturday.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Kumar (38). Apparently, the deceased man fell into the VC canal which flows near the stadium where the CM is addressing the gathering. The people who noticed Kumar shifted him to a hospital with haste, but the doctors declared him brought dead.
Suicide or accident
Kumar’s father-in-law Ravi, has filed a case stating that the deceased fell into the canal accidentally, while Kumar’s wife Sumalatha claims that he was debt-ridden and thus was compelled to commit suicide.
CM Kumaraswamy visited the government hospital here to pay his last respects to Kumar.
