Decision on imposing night curfew on Sunday: CM Basavaraj Bommai

Hubballi: Measures required to contain omicron spread, including the imposition of night curfew, would be discussed with the experts and officials on Sunday in Bengaluru said Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Talking to newspersons here on Saturday, he said, the government was worried about the Omicron variant spreading from Maharastra and Kerala.  “Now cases are on the rise in Tamil Nadu as well. In this context, discussions will be held about enhancing the containment measures, and about holding new year celebrations,” the CM said.

Bommai said that the failure to pass the anti-conversion bill in the Belagavi session of the Karnataka legislature was not a setback for the government.  “We don’t have a majority in the upper house. Also, 3-4 members of our party were absent. The bill would have been introduced if two more members had come to the proceedings,” he added.

Slamming the behavior of the opposition members during the Belagavi session, the CM said “It is reprehensible that the members of the opposition have not only taken a stubborn attitude but also insulted the speaker,” and added that he had persuaded the aggrieved speaker Basavaraj Horatti not to resign.

Further, Bommai informed that he won’t be going on a foreign tour as of now, as the Davos Summit has been postponed.
