Demand for additional M’luru-B’luru trains raised as rain disrupts road connectivity

The landslides triggered by incessant rainfall lashing coastal Karnataka have affected Mangaluru-Bengaluru connectivity owing to restrictions on vehicular traffic on Shiradi Ghat, Charmadi, Sampaje, Agumbe.
In this backdrop, public and organisations have petitioned for additional train services between Bengaluru and the coastal region. It has been urged to introduce at least one additional night and day train to cater to the rush of people who prefer rail over road transport, especially in the monsoon season.
The trains running on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru stretch include the Mangaluru-Kannur train (four times a week), Gomateshwara express (thrice a week), and Panchaganga express.
It has also been urged to add more bogies to the Kannur-Bengaluru express and run daily trains to Mysuru.
Expressing his opinion, West coast train travel development committee president Hunumantha Kamath cited that elected representatives from the region must exert pressure to get the demands met at the earliest.
Recently, BJP MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had put forth people’s request to railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav who he said showed a positive response.
