  • Problem due to lack of space at private bus stand

Uppinangady: There is allegation being heard that the transport corporation has completely ignored to provide a bus stand for government buses at Uppinangady in Puttur taluk which the connection centre for pilgrimage centres and to the capital of the state.

Uppinangady is the connecting link between Mangaluru-Bengaluru cities as well as pilgrimage places like Dharmasthala, Subrahmanya Southadka. Since the past, the transport company has depended on the bus stand within the limits of the panchayat. The corporation has not shown any interest to create its own bus stand. Daily, more than 400 KSRTC buses are using this bus stand. They are also competing with private buses. Since there is a lack of space here, it’s causing problem. The local transport control officer has written a letter to higher officials regarding this issue.

Lack of space

Observing the increasing number of buses at the bus stand, the members and the president of the panchayat administration committee have requested the district in-charge minister to put pressure on the transport minister. Due to the lack of space at the bust stand, buses departing towards Bengaluru, Tirupati and Chennai go straight along the highway instead of stopping at the bus stand. At least now the transport corporation needs to wake up. The transport corporation is only increasing their number of buses to give competition to private buses but not searching land for their own bus stand, says localite Ismail from Laxmi Nagar.

Letter for minister

“I have noticed the problem at the bus stand. Even before the legislative assembly elections, I had written a letter to the transport minister requesting a separate bus stand for the transport corporation buses. I will ask details during the next session,”
 said Sanjeeva Matandur, MLA, Puttur

Not being followed

“Since there is no space at the bus stand, the transport corporation buses do not approach the bus stand, but instead continue along their journey. A request in this connection has been submitted to the corporation’s superintendent and an order has been passed for all the buses to pass through the bus stand. But it is not being followed,” complained Jatindra Shetty, president, Namnuru Nekkilady Association
