Mangaluru: In the backdrop of dengue outbreak in the twin districts, the district administration of Dakshina Kannada district has decided to hold ‘Dengue Drive Day’ on every Sunday of the month throughout the district.

The district administration and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) had already decided to hold this drive in every house of the corporation limits on Sunday, July 28. Presently, the programme has been extended all the areas within the district limits for the coming months.

Malaria and dengue are vector borne diseases and mosquitoes are the vector. The outbreak of such epidemic diseases can be curtailed by destroying the larvae and eggs laid by the mosquitoes in stagnant water. Hence, Dengue Drive Day is being conducted to clear stagnant water found in coconut shells, buckets, plastic containers, flower pots or any other water collecting area.
