Dense fog leads to multiple accidents at Charmadi ghat, sparks concerns over barrier wall safety

Marred by relentless rain and thick fog, two separate accidents unfolded at Charmadi Ghati, raising alarm bells over the safety of the barrier wall on Friday.
The first incident involved a Bolero vehicle en route to Mangalore, navigating near the Charmadi Bidiruthala bus stand. Dense fog obscured visibility, leading the vehicle to collide with the barrier wall. Fortunately, all occupants emerged unscathed, escaping what could have been a dire situation.
A second accident unfolded on a narrow road just beyond the Annappa Swamy temple. Here, a bus traveling from Hubli to Dharmasthala collided with a car on its way from Dharmasthala to Dharwad. The foggy conditions exacerbated the collision, resulting in a barrier collapse and causing minor injuries to those involved.
What compounds the concern is the perilous thousand-foot drop on the short route through Charmadi Ghati. With the barrier wall compromised due to the recent accidents and the persistent thick fog, the public is urgently calling upon the highway authority to undertake immediate repairs to ensure the safety of commuters.
