Dentist Dr Krishnamurthy’s death: Five arrested, hartal in Badiadka

Badiadka: Following the arrest of 5 persons related to the death of renowned dentist Dr. Krishnamurthy Sarpangala, a massive hartal here on Friday demanding an NIA probe into the case.

As the situation remains sensitive, police have tightened security in the area.

The arrested accused have been identified as T S Ali Poottukallu, Mohammed Shihabuddin, Umarul Farooq, Ashraf, and Mohammed Hanif.

The 57-year-old dentist had one missing on the afternoon of November 8. Badiadka police registered a missing case based on a complaint by his wife. On November 10, Dr. Krishnamurthy was found dead on a railway track at Ajji Mane, Hittiangadi village near Kundapura.

The body was handed to the family after completing procedures, following which his funeral was held on Friday morning.

Dr. Krishnamurthy’s disappearance and death has sparked a debate in Badiadka. It is alleged that on November 8 at around 11 am a woman had gone to his clinic for a dental check-up. A group reportedly accused the dentist of misbehaving with her and threatened the dentist. The woman had also registered a police complaint. thereafter, Dr. Krishnamurthy had gone missing.

A huge crowd gathered in Badiadka on Friday, following a call given by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Addressing the gathering, VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell demanded the probe by NIA.

Meanwhile, police are trying to ascertain how Dr. Krishnamurthy reached Kundapura. Police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas for clues.
