Hassan: Former prime minister and JD(S) national president H D Devegowda said that since Veerashaiva Lingayath faith already has a rich history there is no necessity for a separate religious tag for the Lingayaths.

Speaking to the reporters on Thursday he said “I don’t know why the government has picked two ministers to battle for the different religion tag for Lingayats. We didn’t make any endeavour to break the religion. We are in cordial relationship with the seers of Balehonnur, Siddaganga, Suttur and different mutts, and we don’t feel any contrast between the Veerashaivas and Lingayats. I am not aware of the ongoing debate on agreeing minority status to the Lingayats,” he said
