Mumbai: In an unexpected twist Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Maharashtra chief minister on Saturday morning. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar was sworn in as deputy CM of Maharashtra.

The move comes just hours after NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena announced that the government formation will take under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray.

Soon after Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the new Maharashtra Chief Minister on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar on taking oath as CM and deputy CM of Maharashtra respectively.

“I am confident they will work diligently for the bright future of Maharashtra,” PM Modi said.
