Dharwad: The rural police have booked eight persons for allegedly vandalizing a stall run by a Muslim trader, at Nuggikeri Anjaneya temple premises on the city outskirts.
A video of a group of men assaulting and harassing Nabisab, a Muslim fruit seller outside of the Hanuman temple had gone viral on social media platforms.
The incident took place just a few days after several Hindu outfits in the state planned to end the monopoly of Muslim fruit vendors in Karnataka.
The video clip being circulated on Twitter and other social media platforms show a group of miscreants who reportedly belong to Hindu outfits wearing saffron scarves harassing and destroying the carts of Muslim fruit vendors who were selling watermelons outside the Hanuman temple.
The video also shows fruits thrown on the road and the vendor’s carts being destroyed.
Reacting to the incident, former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy tweeted against the vandalism.
In a series of tweets he wrote, “There is no difference between the bloodshed terrorists in Kashmir and these savages who are harboring peace and harmony.”
He urged the Karnataka government to take action against the perpetrators.
The JD(S) workers visited Nabisab and handed over Rs 10,000 announced by their leader H D Kumaraswamy.
Youth Congress National President B V Srinivas and State President Mohammed Nalpad visited Nabisab’s stall. They also announced a compensation of Rs 25,000 each to the four traders whose stalls were vandalized.
