Surat: A sparkling Ganesha statue in Surat’s Dalia Sheri has turned out to be a crowd puller, with
several people thronging the pandal to get a glimpse of the diamond-studded Ganapati.
That’s right… this Ganesh pandal, themed around “golden temple and the movie Baahubali” houses two idols both of which are adorned with diamond stones, donated by the devotees.
While the smaller idol, made up of silver is studded with 1.5 lakh diamonds, the majestic idol is not just diamond-studded but its feet, ears and hands are made of silver and gold.
During the 10-day festivities, an estimated four-five lac people visit the pandal. Those devotees whose wishes get fulfilled usually make donations in silver items to the pandal, informed the organiser Gaurav Jariwala.
According to reports around 80,000 Australian and American diamonds are studded on the majestic Ganesha idol and 10-15 kilograms of gold and silver mixture is used to make the plating for feet, ear and hands.
Adequate security arrangements have been put in place at the pandal and CCTV cameras along with guards have been placed across the pandal.
