Kundapur: Kundapura-based Prithviraj Shetty Hunchani has found a spot in the Indian 15-member squad announced for the DICC Cricket ODI World Cup 2022 to be held in Doha, Qatar in September this year.
He is the only cricketer from the state to be selected for the national team. Two others from the state — Ancil Pinto and Shoaib Mohammed– who were in the final 41, failed to make it to the final 15.
Prithviraj is not only a fast bowler but also a lower-order explosive batter. The 31-year-old hopes to find a place in the playing 11.
The selection trials were held at the 4-day selection camp held in Delhi. The final 15 will be trained for another fortnight.
Prithviraj is the proud son of late Subhaschandra Shetty and Sheelavati couple. Though he was born deaf, this disability never hampered his desire to achieve big cricket.
