Karnataka’s Castle Rock railway station is quite popular among movie-makers for shooting their films. The station, located in the Uttara Kannada district is surrounded by the dense forests of Western Ghats and as per history one required to have a passport to cross the border at a check-post here.

Prior to Independence, the Castle Rock station at the beginning of Braganza Ghat, was an immigration point between British India and Portugal-ruled Goa. Though the Castlerock railway station was under the British-ruled area, it was built and managed by the Portuguese government.

The passport restrictions were reportedly relaxed for some years in between but it was again imposed when the Goa Liberation Movement intensified.

Castle Rock is the nearest railway station to reach the Dudhsagar Falls or Sea of Milk, one of the tallest waterfalls in India. Dudhsagar falls has an average width of 100 feet and a height of 1017 feet. During the rainy season, there is demand for more passenger trains here since travelers make a rush to enjoy the scenic beauty of Doodhsagar waterfalls.
