Disproportionate assets: Mangaluru court imposes Rs 1 Crore penalty, 4 year jail term to govt employee

Mangaluru: A court in Mangaluru, on Monday, August 1, held an accused government servant guilty of amassing disproportionate assets as a First Division Assistant and pronounced the sentence.
After a thorough trial, III Addl. District & Sessions Judge B. B Jakati held the accused, U Omprakash Hegde, guilty under the provisions of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The court sentenced him to 4 years in prison and also imposed a penalty of Rs 1 Crore.
In January 2014, the Karnataka Lokayukta Police had registered the charge sheet against Omprakash Hegde, who was serving as an FDA at the Bantwal Taluk office for holding assets beyond his income. Presently,
