Mangaluru: A court convicted an official of the Mangaluru City Corporation in a disproportionate assets case on Friday and pronounced the sentence.
Lokayukta police of Mangaluru division had raided the premises of senior sanitary inspector Shivlinga K in February 2013. He had been accused of amassing wealth close to Rs 76 lakhs, which was disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Additional District Sessions Court Judge B.B. Jakati delivered the verdict on Friday and found the charges framed against the accused official to be true.
Under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, the court set a punishment of 4 years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 crore. If the accused fails to pay the fine, they have issued an order imposing another 1-year imprisonment.
