Distressed Farmer Ends Life in Bagalkot as State Govt Remained Silent Over Loan Issue

Bagalkot: Depressed farmer in Lokapura of Bagalkot district ended his life by hanging self after Karnataka state government remained silent over his request seeking relief from bank loans. The deceased, Ishwarappa Gurappa Angadi (57) obtained loan of Rs 13, 55, 000 for farming on his 10 acre farm land. However, he failed to repay the loans as planned.
The farmer sought state government’s support in the loan issue and put forwarded the argument of Supreme Court judge Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar dated March 2, 2017 which stated the state government should move forward to help the distressed farmers before they opt for suicide.
The state government remained silent over the petition of the farmer where as in a reply to another petition, the union government asked Karnataka to take necessary measures to support the distressed farmer. However, Karnataka government remained silent over the issue which forced the farmer to end his life.
