District jail inmates fight; one grievous injured

Mangaluru: A POCSO case accused, who was remanded to judicial custody, was attacked at the district jail here on Thursday, March 7.

Apparently, the accused identified as Aksauddin was attacked in the morning by a group of jail inmates. The accused was eventually rescued from further harm through the jail staff’s intervention.

The accused suffered grievous injures in the attack. The jail police immediately rushed the injured to Wenlock government hospital.

According to sources, Mangaluru North police had arrested Aksauddin under the POCSO act. There is no clarity on if the accused was victim of a pre-meditated attack due to previous grudge or if it was a result due to a verbal altercation in the jail.

Due to the incident, security at the prison has been tightened.
