Mangaluru: The state government on Friday announced Rs 25 lakh compensation from the chief minister’s relief fund to the kin of ‘communal’ murder victims from Dakshina Kannada.

Masood of Bellare; Mohammed Fazil of Mangalapete; Abdul Jaleel of Katipalla and Deepak Rao of Katipalla had fallen prey to religion-based conflicts in Dakshina Kannada district.

It may be recalled that the district was rocked by three murders, that of Masood, Fazil and Praveen Nettaru in the month of July 2022. Jaleel was killed on December 24, 2022, while Deepak Rao’s murder had occurred in January, 2018.

The compensation was released by internal administration following a request made by DGP on behalf of the state government.

The kin of the deceased have been asked to collect the compensation cheques on June 19.
