DK dist among 75 ZPs in country recognised for comprehensive development

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, has been recognized once again for being an open defecation-free district, good utilization of various grants from the Central government and undertaking many experiments under the MNREGA scheme.
75 zilla panchayats from across the country have been recognized for landmark achievement in the Independence Day celebrations ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’ recognitions.
Davanagere, Kodagu and Mandya are the other three zilla panchayats from the State among the 75 zilla panchayats.
The Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, under the MNREGA scheme, planted fruit-bearing plants around Anganwadis, constructed school fences, built septic tanks and constructed solid and liquid waste units.
The zilla panchayat has also done well in utilizing the 14th (currently 15th) Finance Commission grants and achieved significant success in the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM).
