DK dist child helpline receives record 113 calls in July

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district office of ‘Childline – 1098,’ run under a scheme by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, received a record 113 calls, to date, in July.
The previous record of 102 calls was in 2019.
Many of the calls are from children in Bantwal, Belthangady and Sullia taluks in the district.
Childline officials reported that the helpline provides emergency response to all children’s issues including child’s emergency care and nutrition and children who live in rural and inland areas are more likely to have these problems.
There have been 43 calls demanding ration kits and after proper review kits were provided to almost all of them. There have been 15 reported cases of child begging. 9 calls seeking housing, 6 calls regarding mental abuse.
The helpline also received calls for mobile phone and network related problems for online classes.
