DK: Public celebrations on Naga Panchami prohibited

Mangaluru: The district administration has prohibited all public Nag Panchami celebrations in the district this year due to the COVID-19 crisis.
The decision was taken after a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here.
Nag Panchami falls on July 25 this year.
It was also decided that only the priests and temple staff would be allowed to perform the rituals in all Nag temples in Dakshina Kannada district on that day.
Moreover, all public religious ceremonies in all the major festivals including Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesha Chaturthi and Vara Mahalaxmi festival has also been prohibited.
The people should be confined to their homes and celebrate the festivals in their houses, said Kota Srinivasa Poojary, the minister in charge of the district.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh, Additional Deputy Commissioner M J Roopa and others.
