Udupi: Do not weaken through drug abuse, the country’s strength which lies in its immense youth population, which is the largest in the world, said DK district police SP Ravikanthe Gowda.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a sand art programme held against drugs at Malpe beach. The programme was organized by a group of organizations including the district police, District Working Journalists Association, Udupi Press Club, Udupi Press Photographers Association and Malpe Development Committees.

A person indulging in drug abuse, along with him, will bring down his family and the society towards the path of destruction. It is the responsibility of every citizen to work along with the police to fight against this habit, he said.

Udupi SP Laxman Nambaragi presided over the function. Senior cartoonist James Vas inaugurated the programme by drawing a picture. He addressed the gathered and said that initially, we consume drugs, later the same drugs consume us, by then irreparable damage takes place. Therefore it is better to be aware before this happens, he advised.

Kundapur sub-division officer Bhubalan, spoke and said that many times the problems which cannot be solved by the government have been solved when the society joined hands together and drugs is such a problem he said.

It is impossible to control only through law

“Elimination of drugs through law is impossible. Parents need to make sure that their children do not fall prey to drug abuse. Through this, the menace can be eliminated from the society itself. It is the job of the police to enforce law and spread awareness. It is appreciable that the reporters and artists have joined in on this duty,” said Ravikanthe Gowda, DK district police Superintendent.
