Don’t be surprised if President Rule is imposed in UP: Subramanian Swamy

Chennai: Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has predicted that the Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh could be postponed due to the emerging concerns about Omicron.
“Don’t be surprised by a Lockdown for Omicron and postponement of UP elections to September under President Rule in UP. What could not directly be done earlier this year can be then done indirectly early next year,” he wrote on the Koo App on Saturday.
Subramanian Swamy’s statement assumes significance on the backdrop of the Allahabad High Court judge asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider stopping next year’s elections.
Meanwhile, the term of the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh led by Yogi Adityanath will end in the third week of March 2022. Elections are to be held before then, to avoid the imposition of the President’s rule in the state.
