Don’t expose children to animal slaughter: Pejawar Swami

Udupi: Sri Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math advocated for imparting of value-based education to children in school.

The seer was among the religious leaders who attended a meeting called by the government to discuss various issues including value-based education in the school curriculum.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Pejawar Math Swamiji that children should not be exposed to any kind of cruelty. He spoke against slaughtering of animals in front of children. On issue of meat shops, the seer said that there is nothing wrong in having a butcher shop but suggested that raw meat be kept inside the shops instead of hanging them outside as it may have an adverse effect on the children’s well-being.

On the issue of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, the seer said that children must be given whatever they desire. He however advocated for sattvic food citing Ayurveda Shastra which states that Tamasic foods tend to increase negative behaviour among children.

The family elders can take a decision in regard with the food to be given to their children.

On inculcating proper values in children, the seer said that moral education and mythological stories must be told to children. The religious leaders have expressed their opinion to the chief minister at the meeting on the issue.

Religious leaders from all sects participated in the meeting and there was no resistance to the thoughts expressed by others, he said.
