Water being filtered through cloth

One must travel a long distance for drinking water. Clean drinking water is a mirage for the residents of the dalit colony at Saginagudde. Use of contaminated water has given rise to fears regarding possible problem to health.

Tekkatte: The residents of the dalit colony here are compelled to travel a distance of mile to get drinking water. This is the terrible state of Saginagugge in Koorgi GP in Kundapur. They are using the iron contaminated water daily by filtering it through a cloth.

No tap water

The gram panchayat has been providing water in the dawn from the public well in Janatha Colony at Hosamata and the well near the Government School at Hosamata. In the backdrop of the complete drop in water level at the well here, the close to 45 houses in the area are not receiving proper tap water. Due to this reason, a tank facility per two houses must be provided, says Parvati, a local.

Problems

Around 4-5 bore wells in and around Janatha Colony in Hosamata have become useless. There is an almost 25-years-old well at Koorgi Saginagudde which has very little water and has also become dysfunctional.

Peoples demand

  • Renovation of Saginagudde well
  • GP must immediately provide water through water tanker
  • Water must be provided at a predefined time
  • The village must be provided with permanent solution by making use of Varahi canal water

Will take action

“A bore well had been dug at Saginagudde area on behalf of the GP but it was not successful. Proper action will be taken to provide drinking water,” Gange Kulalti, President, Koorgi GP

Provide relief

“Water problem is faced here in the month of January itself. Since three months, the situation is such that one has to get water from Kustappa Shetty’s house which is located 1 km away. The water being used daily needs to be filtered through cloth. Permanent solution needs to be provided for the GP’s problems,” says Kamal, a local

Provide tanker water

“Already water is being provided to all the GP through tankers. But, even though our village is facing so much trouble, water is not being provided here and the village has been neglected. The GP must respond to our basic problems,” says Chikku, a local

Udayavani demands

Clean drinking water must be provided to the residents of the colony through tankers. The panchayat must take the responsibility of water facility until the end of the summer season.
