The Koramangala police have swiftly arrested a car driver who had fled with ₹50 lakh belonging to a real estate businessman. The accused, identified as Rakshith Kumar (35) from Arasikere in Hassan district, was apprehended within hours of the complaint being filed, and the stolen amount was recovered in full.
The victim, Subbareddy, a resident of Koramangala and a real estate businessman, lodged a complaint with the police after the theft. Subbareddy had employed Rakshith Kumar as his driver eight months ago through mutual acquaintances.
On Friday morning, Subbareddy collected ₹50 lakh from a friend for a business deal and kept the cash in his car before returning home for lunch. Seizing the opportunity, Rakshith stole the bag containing the cash and handed the car keys to the security guard before fleeing.
When Subbareddy returned to the car, he discovered the cash missing and immediately reported the matter to the police.
Acting on the complaint, Inspector Nataraj and PSI Madesh of the Koramangala Police Station formed a team and launched an operation. CCTV footage from the vicinity revealed that the accused had fled in an Ola cab. The police coordinated with the cab service provider to trace the vehicle’s registration number, which led them to the suspect within four to five hours.
During interrogation, Rakshith confessed to the crime, citing financial difficulties and debts incurred for his sister’s wedding as the motive.
The police recovered the entire stolen amount of ₹50 lakh from the accused. Subbareddy expressed gratitude to the Koramangala police team for their prompt action.
