Bengaluru: A car driver who stole Rs 75 lakhs in cash from his employer, was nabbed by Byatarayanapura Police.
The accused, identified as Santhosh Kumar (28) of Hosakote, allegedly confessed to having stolen the money assuming that the cash was ‘black money’ and as such his employer wouldn’t report the theft, police said.
The stolen cash worth Rs 72 lakhs, and the Ford Endeavour car have been seized from him, police added.
The accused had been hired as a car driver by Harish (29), a businessman who resides at Huskoor about 8 months ago.
Santhosh had known that Harish had recently gotten payment in cash related to a land deal and the money was kept in the car. On October 19 at midnight, when Harish stopped the car to buy cigarettes near Satellite Bus Stop, Santhosh drove away with the cash and the car. His mobile phone was also switched off.
On October 20, Harish lodged a complaint about the missing cash and car at the Byatarayanapura Police Station.
