Bengaluru: A 46-year-old man died in a freak mishap when he allegedly attempted to kill his minor daughter following a verbal spat between them.

The deceased identified as Saptak Banerjee, who was employed as a software engineer had recently quit his job.

Saptak’s wife had passed away some years back and he was residing at Mantri Paradise apartment on Bannerghatta Road with his 15-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son.

Due to his alcohol addiction, Saptak would often harass his children over petty issues, the police informed.

On the day of the incident, an inebriated Saptak began playing the keyboard late night. A verbal spat ensued between Saptak and his daughter when the latter asked him to stop playing keyboard. An enraged Saptak tried to assault his daughter with a pair of scissors. However he tripped and fell when she tried to resist his attack and the scissors he was holding pierced through his chest killing him on the spot.

The girl immediately informed her relatives and neighbours and they summoned police.

The police have booked the girl under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC. A case was registered at Mico Layout police station.
