Dry day will be observed from May 10-12: Commissioner Vipul Kumar

Mangaluru: Police commissioner Vipul Kumar said that security arrangements are arranged for the upcoming assembly elections which will be held on May 12.
Addressing a press meet at his office, Vipul Kumar said, “Mangaluru City police consists of four legislative assembly constituencies. There are 26 check-posts functioning out of which 6 are in interstate borders”.
We have deployed 14 flying squads and 12 static surveillance teams, 11 companies of (Central Armed Police Force) CAPF, 27000 police men and officers for bundobust duties. We have obtained 1908 weapons from licensed gun holders. We have also booked 753 security cases in the wake of assembly elections,” Kumar said.
In view of maintaining law and order, 2,756 rowdy-sheeters and 90 potential trouble-makers are under surveillance. The police have conducted 206 route marches across the city.
“Thirteen criminial cases have been booked after the election code of conduct came into force. These include 8 cases of seizures by flying squads and police teams. The seized items include Rs 3 lac in cash, flex, BJP party shawls, sound box DVD player and a car. Five cases were booked for violation of model code of conduct and under Representation of People Act.”
Ban orders
With polling on May 12, the district administration has issued orders banning liqour (dry days) from 6 pm on May 10 to 6 pm on May 12.
Section 144 will be in place across Dakshina Kannada district from 6 pm on May 10 to 6 PM on May 13.
On voting day, ban orders under Section 144 (1) CrPC (fairs, festivals, animal markets etc) will be enforced at Bikarnakatte-Kaikamba weekly market and Karnad weekly market under Mulky panchayat limits.
