  • Woman loses Rs. 25,900
  • Fraudsters from Jharkhand

Puttur: A woman believing an SMS, paid money in advance on the belief that she will get a car only realized too late that she was cheated and wrote a complaint letter about the same to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). As a result, the PMO has directed Kadaba police to investigate the issue and the police have promptly registered a case in this regard.

The victim has been identified as Nagaratna, a resident of Kodimbala who lost an amount of Rs 25,900 in the month of April 2018.

The victim had received an SMS that claimed that she was a winner of a lucky draw and had won a Safari SUV as the prize. Nagartana was instructed to pay Rs 6,600 to a certain bank account number of Jharkhand in order to get the prize. When she promptly deposited the said amount, she was asked to pay another Rs 12,000 citing some other reason. The gullible lady deposited this amount also.

The victim was again asked to pay another Rs. 6000 which she promptly deposited in the mentioned account without informing her family members. However, she eventually realized that she was being taken for a ride.

The police is trying to collect information of the bank account that was provided to Nagaratna by the fraudsters, informed the sub-inspector of Kadaba police station.
