DYFI activists remove barricades at Harekala bridge

Mangaluru: DYFI activists on Tuesday removed the gates installed on the bridge, connecting Harekala to Adyar on NH 75, thus opening it for vehicular movement.
The bridge was not opened up for traffic even though the work had been completed four months ago as there was no order for the same from the small irrigation department, as well as, owing to a stay order from the court.
It was said that the bridge would be opened for traffic on April 1. Though officials had come for the same on Monday they stopped from opening the bridge owing to the election model code of conduct in operation.
Frustrated over the delay, Harekala DYFI unit submitted an appeal to the DC on Monday. On Tuesday, DYFI activists along with the general public removed the gates blocking access to the bridge and opened it for vehicle movement.
