Effort is ours, results are God’s will: DCM DK Shivakumar on K’taka by-elections

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar emphasized that while the Congress party has made significant efforts in the Karnataka by-elections, the outcomes ultimately rest in the hands of divine will. Speaking to reporters after offering prayers at the Kollur Mookambike temple, Shivakumar expressed confidence in divine blessings for the party’s success in all three constituencies.

On Election Surveys

When asked about predictions suggesting one seat each for the three major parties, Shivakumar dismissed such surveys. “Election surveys are not the basis for politics. People’s trust and support determine the winners,” he said, citing previous surveys in Karnataka and Haryana elections that did not align with the actual results.

Temple Administration Controversy

Addressing allegations that defectors were favored over Congress loyalists in the Kollur temple Administrative Board, Shivakumar clarified, “Promises were made during elections. We have allowed them to administer for a limited time, as per our word.”

BPL Card Issue

On the issue of Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards, Shivakumar assured that no genuine cardholder would face injustice. “Instructions have been issued to compile a list of those affected. If cards have been wrongly canceled, reapplications will be permitted. This is a promise from the government and as KPCC President,” he stated, accusing the Opposition of sensationalizing the matter.

On Naxal Encounter

Refusing to comment on the recent police encounter involving a Naxal leader, Shivakumar said it fell under another department’s purview.

Nabard Loan Reduction

Regarding the Centre’s reduction of Nabard loans, he confirmed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had already appealed to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for reconsideration.

Guarantee Schemes

Responding to Opposition claims that the Congress government’s guarantee schemes might be discontinued, Shivakumar reaffirmed their commitment. “The schemes will continue for 3.5 more years, and if re-elected, we will extend them for another five years,” he said, attributing the success of the programs to divine blessings from Goddess Mookambike. He concluded by praying for the welfare of the state and its people.
