Eid celebrated in Udupi, DK districts

Mangaluru: Muslims in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district celebrated Eid ul-Fitr today.
Eid ul-Fitr is an important festival celebrated by Muslims globally. It marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. The day celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan.
Eid-ul-Fitr, symbolises peace and brotherhood. The festival is marked with feasts and the faithful offers prayers at mosques and idgahs to seek blessings of the divine.
Muslims in Kerala and Udupi and Mangaluru will be celebrating Eid today, where as the rest will observe Eid on Saturday.
Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari made the announcement on Thursday night after a meeting of the moon-sighting committee here, a senior official at the city’s historic mosque said.
“The moon was not sighted today. So, that means the Eid will be celebrated on Saturday in Delhi and several other parts of the country,” he told.
