Eight students hospitalized in a suspected case of well water poisoning

Belthangady: Eight students of a government school in Belthangady were hospitalized after drinking water drawn from a well here at Shibhaje Perla on Monday, December 2.

Police suspect that miscreants might have contaminated the well water with poison.

The victims have been identified as Chetan Kumar (13), Sudeesh (14), Yogeesh(14) Radhakrishna (14), Sudeep (12), Rajesh (12), Monis (12) and Shravan (12). the condition of four students is said to be critical and they have been shifted to Wenlock hospital in the city.

It is gathered that the students complained of chest and throat pain after consuming water pumped from the school well. As their health condition started to worsen, school authorities immediately rushed them to a hospital. School headmistress also took a sample of the water for testing.

A case has been registered and an investigation is on.
