Sullia: In an incident that came to light in some delay, an elderly woman who was living alone at Subramanya Nagar in Sullia has been murdered for gain and the murderers made off with gold ornaments.

The deceased woman is identified as Ratnavati G Shetty (80), a resident of fifth cross near Subramanya temple.  The incident came to light on Friday night and the corpse is in a putrefied state. The police suspect the murder might have occurred at least four days ago.

According to the information provided to the police by Suprabha, daughter of the deceased, she presumes that the murder might have taken place between 3 pm of July 2 and 8.30 pm of July 5 when the victim was sleeping in the bedroom of her house. The murderers must have gained access into the house, murdered the woman and made off with the gold chain, bangles and earrings, she states in her complaint to the police.

Presently there is a suspicion that a young couple, who were staying in the house on rent may be involved in the crime.
