Udupi: An elderly woman was duped into parting her gold jewellery weighing 20 grammes at the government hospital at Ajjarkad here on Thursday, October 31.

The woman, Sharada Tingalaya (65) from Udyavar Pitrody had come to the hospital to get her blood tests done when the man introduced himself as her relative and offered to help her with securing the Ayushman health card from the district hospital.

Not doubting his intentions, the woman went along with him and believed him when he said that she would require to remove her ornaments as the same was not allowed. She handed over her chain and ring to the man who later fled from the spot at an opportune time.

A case of cheating was registered at the town police station here.

The police have checked CCTV footage of the Ajjarkad hospital to identify and search the culprit.
